Established in Epworth in 1973, then relocated to its own premises in Ashby, Scunthorpe in 1988 the Joyce Mason Dance Academy offers classes in ballet from 3 years old and tap and modern dance from 5 years old. Pupils are trained in the Royal Academy of Dance in ballet and I.S.T.D. and I.D.T.A. in modern and tap, where they can take examinations annually. However examinations are not compulsory and pupils may move to the next level when the required standard has been achieved.

The school is very proud of its many successful past pupils who are now in ballet companies, the West End, Lido in Paris and on Cruise Liners and in the teaching profession. Pupils have been successful in auditioning for the Royal Ballet School, Elmhurst Ballet School and Vocational Colleges in London (Millennium, London Studio Centre, Performers College) and Royal Ballet School Outreach programmes.

Others classes taught are Jazz, Adult Ballet and Adult Tap. Pupils may also participate in dance festivals and the school presents a bi-annual show, which is held for a week at the Plowright Theatre in Scunthorpe.

The aim of the school is to train all pupils to the highest standards and nurture the physical and creative development of each child so they may achieve their potential. All staff are very highly qualified and experienced. Classes are held in the evenings and Saturdays during school term time at the Ashby studio and Hobbies Centre. A full timetable of classes can be found on this website.
